Children's activities

A Salvation Army children's activity

Children's activities vary greatly from church to church, so please email us to find out what is happening in your area!

The Salvation Army offers a range of activities for children of all ages, and the following are just some of the most common ones! Contact us using the details provided if you'd like to know more about anything you've read.

After-school clubs

Salvation Army churches run a variety of programs aimed at the needs of children and parents. Here are two of the most common:

  • SAGALA is The Salvation Army's version of Scouts and Guides. The program usually runs one night per week, and there are also opportunities for kids to be involved in camps and community service activities. Course material focuses on positive living, personal development and outdoor skills, but plenty of time is also devoted to playing games and having fun. SAGALA is open to children between the ages of 5 and 16.
  • Many churches run weekly kids clubs, which can range from social and recreational activities to dance parties to homework assistance and study clubs. Once again, activities and times vary greatly from location to location, so take a few minutes to drop us a line and we'll be happy to help you find what you're looking for!

For more information, please contact the Youth and Children's Ministries team at Territorial Headquarters in Sydney on (02) 9266 9570 or email us at aueyouthteam@aue.salvationarmy.org.

Sunday school

Sunday school activities are held in most Salvation Army churches, usually concurrent with with the Sunday morning adult worship service. Sunday school offers a great opportunity for younger children to socialise with other children in a safe environment while also teaching them about Bible characters and Christianity in the care of loving, dedicated and encouraging teachers. Email us at aueyouthteam@aue.salvationarmy.org for more information, or contact your local church directly.

Postal Sunday school

For kids unable to venture outside of home, or for children living in isolated areas, The Salvation Army offers a postal sunday school. Lessons are received by post every 3 months together with activity booklets. The lessons are based on the Scripture Union SALT curriculum and within 12 months the new LIGHT program will be used.

To enrol send your name, birthdate and address to PO Box A435, Sydney South NSW 1235 or email aueyouthteam@aue.salvationarmy.org.

A minimal one-off fee applies to cover postage and handling.
