Share in the true meaning of Christmas

A Salvation Army officer and young child holding candlesThis year, for the first time ever, we are inviting you to share what Christmas means to you. To join the conversation, please go to TrueMeaningofChristmas.org.au

This Christmas, we are praying you will experience the hope that embodies the real reason for the festivities.

While Christmas celebrations are meant to represent the greatest good-news story ever told, the sad reality is that for many people Christmas becomes a time of stress, loneliness and despair.

This year, The Salvation Army expects to assist more than 350,000 people across Australia in both metropolitan and rural areas during December. Over the Christmas period, financial pressures, relationship issues, alcohol abuse, mental health issues and domestic violence often peak and people struggle to make ends meet. For many it’s a time when all the pressures of life can become overwhelming.

This Christmas we expect to distribute more than $20 million worth of food vouchers, hampers and toys to people in need - providing hope to otherwise hopeless situations.

As you visit the various pages of our special Christmas website, we trust you will encounter something of the hope of Christmas -- the hope The Salvation Army will provide to thousands of families and individuals; practical ways you can share in giving hope to others; and ultimately the hope offered to us all through Jesus.

We hope you have a blessed and hope-filled Christmas with your friends and loved ones.
