Red Shield Appeal
About the Red Shield Appeal
Together, we can help over 1 million Australians this year.
The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army's primary annual fundraising drive. The Red Shield Appeal Doorknock takes place on the weekend of 25-26 May 2013, and it offers Australians from all walks of life a chance to not only get behind the Salvos but to be part of transforming the lives of people right around the country.
Our national goal this year is $79 million, and more importantly every dollar raised results in more people being helped. We are proud of our long track record of being one of Australia's most efficient charities, so you can be confident your support makes a genuine difference for those in need.
You can help by making a donation and by becoming a volunteer. The links and information on this page will help you find out how.
How to donate
Your donation is vital in keeping our doors open and helping over 1 million Aussies every year. You can make a donation in the following ways:
- Using our secure online donation form
- Calling 13 SALVOS (13 72 58)
- And don’t forget, you can donate on the weekend of the doorknock.
Volunteer for the doorknock
One of main elements of the appeal is the national doorknock weekend on 25-26 May. It's a great opportunity for Australians everywhere to roll up their sleeves and be part of making a difference.

History of the Appeal
The first Red Shield Appeal Doorknock was held in 1965 in response to concern about the need for funds to meet the ever-increasing demand on Salvation Army social services.
While the appeal has been expanded and refined enormously since that time, demand upon Salvation Army services continues to increase. Funds raised through the Red Shield Appeal each year are needed more than ever if the Salvos are to maintain their services in the local community.
While The Salvation Army is an international movement and one of the world's largest social service providers, donations to the Red Shield Appeal are always designated exclusively to support Australians.
