Prayer Letter - December 2008

Dear Prayer Partners:

Once there was a man who dared God to speak.

Burn the bush like you did for Moses, God
and I will follow.
Collapse the walls like you did for Joshua, God
and I will fight
Still the waves like you did on Galilee, God
and I will listen
And so the man sat by a bush, near a wall, close to the sea
and waited for God to speak.

And God heard the man, so God answered.
He sent fire, not for a bush, but for a church.
He brought down a wall, not of brick, but of sin.
He stilled the storm, not of the sea, but of a soul.

And God waited for the man to respond.
And he waited….
And he waited….
And waited.

But because the man was looking at bushes, not hearts;
bricks and not lives, seas and not souls,
he decided that God had done nothing.
Finally he looked to God and asked,
Have you lost your power?

And God looked at him and said,
Have you lost your hearing?

We have been praying for several months now and recently we have focused our attention on 7 Mission Priorities of the territory and our desire to see One Army with One Mission.  We need to keep on the lookout for answers to prayer.  If we take fixed positions on how that prayer must be answered or provide him with our agenda for how the priorities will take shape, we may miss the amazing things He is doing and miss what he is actually asking of us.

God loves to answer prayer and the fact that hundreds of us are meeting on Thursdays at 7:30 am to pray for the territory is not a way of buying His favour.  It is our declaration that in order for this territory to rise to its full strength in Christ, we know we desperately need His guidance and blessing.  We can’t do without Him.   An army on the march must first be on its knees.

Such wonderful things are happening.  Stories of transformation are being told.  Corps and centers are engaged in mission together.  Youth are rising up.  There is a fresh heart for holiness, prayer and evangelism.  A passion for reaching children for Christ is making an impact.  The importance of soldiership is gaining momentum and young adults are saying yes to his call for officership.  There is a sense of urgency to see our corps healthy and multiplying.  There is a burning in our bones and He is sending the fire.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer.  Please encourage others to sign up and commit themselves to this half hour of power.

God bless you richly.

Yours sincerely,

Linda Bond (Commissioner)
Territorial Commander
