Community Home (No 47)
The Salvation Army Community Home, more commonly known as ‘Number 47’, is a townhouse that is leased to The Salvation Army Ryde City Church for the purpose of adding value to the Ivanhoe Estate in Macquarie Park. At No. 47 we run beneficial programs for residents, including children, families, young people, the elderly, culturally diverse and vulnerable neighbours within the community. We seek to be a beacon of hospitality and welcome within the estate and play a role in contributing to overall community formation within the area.
"The Word became flesh ... and moved into the neighbourhood." (John 1:14 The Message Translation)
The Ivanhoe Estate, in which the No. 47 Community Home is located, is the largest area of public housing in the City of Ryde. The community home is staffed by a Salvation Army family who are committed to both living AND working in the community, being available and responsive to the needs of the neighbourhood. This unique model allows us to act as a ‘living mission’, inviting those in the neighbourhood to share their lives together and we build community.
Our goal is to develop a socially inclusive community where no one is excluded based on financial, mental health or other disadvantages and a place that meets the needs of young people, students and families which foster self-determination as well as building community capacity. No 47 is set up to be a central hub within a marginalised community where individuals are served, loved, valued and equipped for a better life.
