Oasis Life Skills Program Partnership

What is Oasis Life Skills Program?

The Oasis Life Skills Program is a collaborative partnership between the Central Coast Community College and the Salvation Army Oasis Centre Wyong.  The purpose of this program is to enhance each student’s sense of wellbeing through education. 

The courses delivered under this program will develop each student’s personal and employability skills, while allowing them to explore their own identity.  Students will gain valuable nationally recognised training in a range of skills through enjoyable and practical learning experiences.

Each course will run for one day per week, from 9am to 2.30pm, at the Oasis Centre Wyong with accredited trainers from the Central Coast Community College facilitating.  

What courses are currently running? 

The following courses are currently being offered at Oasis Centre Wyong:

Life Skills: Barista Basics (4 weeks)

Life Skills: Basic Computer Skills (8 weeks)

Life Skills: Community Services (8 weeks)

Life Skills: Customer Service Skills (6 weeks)

Life Skills:  WHS Workshop (6 weeks) 

Life Skills:  Work Ready - Resumes and Forms (4 weeks)

Expressions of interest are being taken for - Makeup & Personal Styling

OASIS LIFE SKILLS FLYER

Barista Basics

This course will cover the ins and outs of using an espresso coffee machine from scratch in our cafe.   The accredited units in this course are:

  • SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXCCS006 Provide service to customers

This course is on Wednesdays - 1 day per week for 4 weeks. 

Basic Computers

This course is designed to give people confidence to use a computer at home or at work.  The accredited units in this course are:

  • ICTICT101 Operate a personal computer
  • BSBITU203 Communicate electronically
  • BSBITU307 Develop keyboard speed and accuracy

This course is on Thursdays - 1 day per week for 8 weeks. 

Community Services

This course is a taster course with a focus of providing an overview for people who want to work in the community services industry.  The accredited units in this course are:

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • FSKLRG09 Use strategies to respond to workplace problems
  • CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support
  • FSKWTG05 Write simple workplace formatted texts

This course is on Mondays - 1 day per week for 8 weeks.

Customer Service Skills

If you are applying for jobs most selection criteria will require you to have good customer service skills, demonstrate on how you work effectively in a team, have good time management skills and be well organised.  The accredited units in this course are from the Cert III Business Administration are:

  • BSBCUS301 Deliver and monitor a service to customers
  • BSBWOR203 Work effectively with others
  • BSBWOR301 Organise personal work priorities and development

This course is on Thursdays - 1 day per week for 6 weeks.

WHS - Workshop Skills

This course is for people interested in developing skills relating to the construction workplace.  Students will complete a woodwork project in our workshop as part of this course.   The accredited units in this course are:

  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • FSKRDG02 Read and respond to basic workplace signs and symbols
  • FSKLRG05 Use strategies to plan simple workplace tasks
  • FSKLRG09 Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems
  • FSKNUM15 Estimate, measure and calculate with routine metric measurements for work
  • FSKWTG09 Write routine workplace texts
  • FSKDIG03 Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks

This course is on Tuesdays - 1 day per week for 6 weeks.

Work Ready - Resumes & Forms

Develop your skills in writing professional documents, including resumes and job applications, the completion of forms for work and home and other documents.  The accredited units in this course are:

  • BSBWRT301 Write simple documents
  • FSKLRG11 Use routine strategies for work-related learning
  • FSKLRG10 Use routine strategies for career planning

For this course there are weekly start dates - Thursdays from 2pm to 5pm.

How do I enrol?

To enrol in the Oasis Life Skills programs you will need to:   

  • Complete the Enrolment form on the Central Coast Community College website
  • If you meet the funding eligibility shown on the flyer above, complete the Proof of eligibility Checklist at Oasis Centre Wyong
  • Provide the required proof for any subsidised training
  • Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI) or if you do not have a USI apply online at https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi 
  • Obtain a referral from an agency that you are currently receiving support from 
  • When all paperwork is completed you will also need to provide a proof of identification original document to Oasis Centre Wyong who will photocopy to finalise the enrolment process

Paying off fines?

You may be eligible to attend the Oasis Life Skills program and pay off your fines with Revenue NSW under a Work Development Order.  To find out more click the link below:
