Oasis Pathways to Employment Program has been specially developed to cater for the needs of socially disadvantaged young people. These adolescents are at risk of long-term exclusion from the employment market due to a lack of appropriate education and training.
Pathways is designed as a five week coaching tool that combines both life skills and work readiness training for young people who are stable in their accommodation and legal matters, and are managing any drug or alcohol related issues.
The aim of the program is to provide a foundation from which young people can launch themselves confidently into the workforce. It is about providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people to learn important life skills, gain a realistic appreciation of what it means to be a responsible employee, have faith in their own abilities and with that, the confidence to take on full or part time employment.
The target group is disadvantaged young people who are at risk of long-term unemployment who may also be experiencing homelessness (aged 16 – 25). However, the key selection criterion is based on each young person having demonstrated an intention to move on with their lives in a positive way. The majority of participants are referred by local job service agencies.
The learning experience is holistic in nature and is specially modified to cater for the life circumstances of each individual student.
