Courts & Prison Chaplains

The Salvation Army’s Courts and Prison chaplains provide caring support and friendship to people and their families before, during and after legal proceedings.

Support at court

Going to court is not just difficult for the parties involved but for their families and friends as well.

Sometimes the feelings of isolation, guilt and shame can be overwhelming, particularly for the familes and parents of offenders convicted of serious crimes.

Our chaplains are available to provide emotional and/or spiritual support without discrimination for

  • Victims of crime
  • Families of victims
  • Witnesses
  • Offenders
  • Families of offenders
  • Court and prison staff

We can also arrange for a chaplain to support someone you know who is going to court.

Enquiries about loved ones

We will do all we can to help you find out about the welfare and/or whereabouts of someone who has been arrested, is going to court or is in prison.

Supporting prisoners

Our chaplains provide a range of support, without discrimination, to adult and juvenile prisoners through

  • Weekly visits
  • Chapel services
  • Regular Bible studies
  • Spiritual counselling

We also use our extensive network to assist prisoners with post-release support.

Counselling & Recovery Support

Our chaplains can also help facilitate entry into Salvation Army programs, such as

  • Emergency accommodation
  • Counselling support
  • Recovery services for those caught in the cycle of addiction
  • Financial counselling through the Moneycare service
  • The Positive Lifestyle Program to address underlying self-esteem issues and to gain skills for improved lifestyle
