Introduction

21 June 2017

Thank you for giving hope, health and education through The Salvation Army Child Sponsorship Program. Your generous and caring gift is changing the world one life at a time.

The sponsorship program is about to undergo an exciting period of change that means each gift we receive will have even more impact. We understand your passion for making a difference and hope you will share our excitement as together we offer more children the life changing opportunities sponsorship provides.

By July 2018, The Salvation Army Australia will be moving from ‘individual child sponsorship’ to ‘community-focused child sponsorship’, so that all children in a community have equal opportunity to reach their God given full potential.

This change is being implemented by all Salvation Army territories around the world as a global strategy for a fairer and more effective way of supporting children in need.

For you as a sponsor, this change means that instead of sponsoring one child, you will have the opportunity to support a child-focused need such as a school, centre or community development project.

Your gift, as well as the gifts of other sponsors, will be used collectively to address core causes of disadvantage in that community, creating an environment that not only helps children today but builds capacity and sustainability so that the children of tomorrow will benefit as well.

As a sponsor of individual children I am also on the journey with all of you. My personal passion is to see children, who live in some of the most desperate situations around the world, be given the opportunity to receive an education, have their basic needs met and know that God loves them unconditionally. Through this new vision, no child in a centre or project will miss out because they don’t have a sponsor. Every child will have equal opportunity to thrive and flourish.

You can continue to sponsor your individual children up until 30 June 2018, at which point we will help you transition to community-focused sponsorship.

Please note that no action is required of you at this time. In the coming months, we will contact you with further information.

In the meantime, please take the time to read the additional information provided in the FAQs section. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our team using the details provided.

Thank you again for your generous support of children in need. We hope that you continue to partner with us to create a better and fairer world for all children.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Carolyn Hallett
Child Sponsorship Director (AUS)
