The Big Hello
The Big Hello is a new program that supports and welcomes Syrian and Iraqi refugees to their new home, Australia.
The campaign has been developed in response to the Australian Government’s decision to settle 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi people fleeing conflicts in their homelands.
The Salvation Army believes that by giving these new arrivals a warm welcome they can gain a sense of belonging and connection to their community.
Care packages and Welcome BBQ
As part of The Big Hello, The Salvation Army is giving a care package to each new arrival.
Part of this care pack is an invitation to a “Welcome Barbecue” at a local Salvation Army centre, which will help refugees to build new connections and settle into their community.
The Salvation Army is inviting all members of the local community to welcome these refugees with an afternoon of food and entertainment.
Volunteer with The Big Hello
We are looking for passionate and friendly volunteers to:
- prepare care packs for adults and children
- meet and greet new arrivals
- pick up and deliver care packs and invitations to BBQ's
- assist local Salvation Army centres in organising "Welcome BBQ's"
All volunteers will need to complete the necessary administrating and training requirements.
