Bringing Christmas sparkle to regional communities

We’re partnering with Coca-Cola’s famous Christmas Truck Tour to bring a bit of Christmas cheer and sparkle to regional communities across Australia.

As the joyful sounds of your favourite Christmas carols fill the air, the 20-metre truck will tour from town to town embellished with an interchangeable light-show and packed with hampers in support of local community members.

Joined by a fleet of more than 580 eager volunteers and celebrity guests, the tour will take us on a journey through regional communities. We’ll head to Tamworth for a music concert with Samantha Jade. Then, it’s off to Townsville for a tasty feast on the beach. Finally, we’ll head to Mt Isa for a relaxing time at a cinema under the stars. With more than 300,000 families and individuals seeking the Salvos help at Christmas, our hope in partnering with Coca-Cola is to start a new gift-giving initiative and combat isolation in these rural areas.

It’s the first time the Christmas Truck has toured Australia after its launch on our TV screens in 1995. And what a start it was! The launch included an outstanding visual display of the truck driving over Sydney Harbour Bridge and live coverage on Seven’s Sunrise in Manly. In her interview with Sunrise Weatherman Sam Mac, The Salvation Army Eastern Territory’s (NSW, QLD & the ACT) Communications and Fundraising Director, Leigh Cleave, shares how it all came about.

“Coke came to us. This is not just about them coming in and making a big noise about Coke,” she says.

“They wanted us to make sure we push back to make sure this is real and it leaves a legacy within the communities we’re going to.

“There can be a feeling of isolation at Christmas time, and we hope this can help change that.”

At the end of the tour, Coca-Cola will arrive back in Sydney with a truckload of Christmas surprises to distribute at Woolworths Carols In The Domain on December 17.
