Amazing Grace 250 Concert 2023

"I was lost and now I'm found, I was blind and now I see” – it's an experience most people can relate to.

Those words are life reflections of John Newton, a slave trader who nearly died in a shipwreck, and who eventually became a minister. He penned the famous words of "Amazing Grace" for a sermon for his 1773 New Years’ service at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul – 250 years ago.

On 22 July 2023, Brisbane City Temple celebrated 250 years of Amazing Grace in word and music, and tell the origin story of the song, and its impact.

Given the anti-slavery source of John Newton’s experience we took the opportunity to present the compelling anti-slavery campaign story and call to actions for the audience in Brisbane.

Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, various famous musicians, singers, bands, choirs and orchestras have recorded and performed Amazing Grace live.

To this day, Amazing Grace continues to be sung and re-invented.
