Children's Ministries

Wollongong Salvation Army Children's Ministry Program (0 to 12 years) is committed to providing a warm and inclusive environment, where children are introduced to their first experiences of belonging to a Church community.

We believe that we are not merely 'child minding', but that children at a very early age have the ability to learn and understand about being a Christian.

We endeavour to show how children (with God's help) can be involved in making our world a better place.

Please see the weekly calendar for days and times of the activities described below.

First Steps

The first four years of a child's life is a time filled with firsts. There is also the first time they will step into the Christian community and hear about God. 'First Steps' is not a program - it is a ministry that aims to reach out, through care and friendship, and make a difference in the lives of 0 to 4 year olds and their families through dedicating children to God, and keeping in touch with birthday cards and children's activities.

Funtime (playgroup)

At Funtime, the grownups share morning tea, while the kids enjoy music time, news time, singing and craft. We also organise outings and special activities, with the opportunity for birthday parties and an end of year Christmas party. (Ages 0 to 5 years)

Kids' Church

Kids' Church is on during our 10:15am Sunday Worship Service (school terms only). There is a special 'Kids's Time' in the Service, after which the children go to their age appropriate activities. Each session is fun, Biblically-based and God-centered, involving games, craft, music, drama, Bible stories, prayer, discussions and quizzes. (Ages 0 to 7 years & 8 to 12 years. 2 years and under with carer)

Junior Soldiers

Junior Soldiers is an age-specific discipleship model for children in the Salvation Army. The aim is to increase the children's knowledge and understanding of Bible truth, Christian doctrine and Army practice and history. The program consists of a weekly teaching time and an award scheme. (Ages 8 to 12 years)

SoL Support (Survivors of Life)

SoL programs welcome children whose families are affected by drug and alcohol misuse or addictions. They are designed to improve self-image, confidence, self-worth and trust. We share in a wide range of activities, including outings, craft, games, guest speakers, school work support and library visits.

SoL & Con-SoL

Meet for a meal, some activities and model building.

SoL-Care

Held during the families' support group meeting, children visit the library for school work support and reading, then have supper and enjoy a DVD, reading or chat.
