Red Shield Appeal

The Red Shield Appeal is the major national appeal for The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army depend upon this appeal to raise funds for its many services to the local communities of Australia. Simply put, without this annual appeal The Salvation Army would need to close many of its servcies such as Rehabilitation Centres, Homeless shelters, Youth Outreach Centres, Aged Care Centres, Chaplaincy and Counselling services, and so on...

Are you able to help The Salvation Army with the appeal? You can be a volunteer by door-knocking as a collector, or be a driver for a team of collectors, or you could gather your family and/or friends to make your own team of collectors. Or you might consider being someone who coordinated an area to be collected?

We here in the Tweed have the opportunity to help our local communities through The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal.

The Salvation Army Tweed Centre was offically opened 11 March 2000. So, we are having a 10th Birthday Celebration weekend full of events on 12-14 March 2000.

Friday 12 March

7pm - Youth Café Reunion (especially for high school age)

Saturday 13 March

3.30pm – High Tea & more

Sunday 14 March

10am – Celebration Service followed by a fellowship lunch & games

4.30pm – Supercharged Celebration (especially for high school age & young adults)

All welcome. And all events are free of charge! We do seek RSVP for the High Tea and the fellwoship lunch for catering purposes.

Your Role in East Timor

The organising for the East Timor Mission Trip is well and truly underway. There is excitement in the air as we continue to prepare, however there is still a great need for you to step up and get involved. There are four ways that you can get involved. You can be on the prayer team, the fund raising team, the organising team and or you can actually attend the mission. I urge you not to sit back and watch the usual members get involved and do the work. This is a church calling, so if you consider yourself a member of this church, then you need to get involved.

James 2:14-17

Faith and Deeds What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

James 2:17 Isn't it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? (The Message)

100% of funds raised go towards water piping, mosquito nets and Gospels in Tetum (native language). All attendees are required to pay there own way.

2010 International Mission

A couple of weeks ago we launched our 2010 mission trip to East Timor.

East Timor is only a 1 hour flight from Australia however they suffer from extreme poverty and disease.

On 38% of the population has access to clean water.

Next year we (The Salvation Army Tweed Centre) are heading over to East Timor with the assistance of Samuel Bacon (Missionary) to provide practical support in the way of water solutions and mosquito nets to the Timorese.

Your prayer support would be greatly appreciated in this time of planning and preparation.
