East Timor
Timor Leste (East Timor) is a beautiful country. With its amazing mountains, lush rain forests and world-class reefs, all within close proximity of each other, tourism is a real potential industry. And the local people are gentle, lovely and generous, which is especially striking considering how many of them suffer from extreme poverty, poor hygiene, terrible infancy death rates, and short life expectancies. This is a country that has so much possibility but won’t see it without the aid of others. To be able to play some role in making life in our close neighbour East Timor a little better for its people is a real privilege, more likely our duty, as we seek to serve God and His kingdom. I'll never forget this experience – the smiles, the poverty, the good and the difficult times – and pray I can learn a deeper way to be faithful to God’s calling on my life.
