Church Partnership Program

The Church Partnership Program is a program developed by Australian NGOS/Churches and their PNG Church partners in cooperation with the AusAID. The Salvation Army is one of seven participating churches. The program purpose is:

To help PNG Churches promote good governance, through strengthening their role in policy dialogue, service delivery, and peace and reconciliation activities.

The program has outcomes areas rather than specific objectives. These include:

  •  Enhanced PNG Church involvement in improving governance
  •  Improved services delivered by PNG Services
  •  Strengthened PNG Churches institutional capacity for development

The program was designed to mobilise and build on the existing relationships, networks and potential of the Churches, using progressive and incremental engagement for implementation. The program approach used the existing mechanisms for AusAID / NGO relationships of the AusAID NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).

The Program aims to build the institutional capacity of PNG Churches to enable them to both contibute to strengthening goverance in PNG and increasing service delivery and to possibly receive direct funding support at some stage. The program is currently funded by AusAID for 5  years. The funding arrangement is due to end in mid-2009 and Phase 2 will then begin.
