About the Gift catalogue

The gifts that keep on giving is the simplest yet one of the most effective ways to donate towards the international development work of The Salvation Army, and it also makes giving fun!

By choosing the gifts that keep on giving you are giving people in developing countries Hope, Freedom, Dignity, a future and opportunities that they otherwise could not have without your support.

It works in a very simple way:

  1. We receive your donation, and allocate it towards a project.
  2. We send your money to the territory where the project is located. The territory distributes the money to the Corps/Centre where items are bought.
  3. 90% of your donation will reach the field, 10% is retained for admin purposes.
  4. You will receive a greeting card in the mail for each item purchased.
  5. You can use the card as a Birthday, Christmas present or greeting card for a loved one

How do we send the gifts overseas?

No, we don’t ship the gifts into boxes and send them off overseas.
Each gift gift you buy represents an item that is used within our development projects overseas.

For example, if you buy a chicken, the funds will go towards funding poultry projects. If you buy a toilet, it will go towards a water and sanitation project where toilets are implemented.

However, if there is a surplus of funds for a certain product, for example "too many goats" and not enough projects where goats are used, we will put the funds toward another animal of our gift catalogue, so that other active agricultural projects can be funded.

Do I get cards for all purchases?

For all ONLINE purchases you automatically get a receipt and E-card attached for you to print. You will need to request cards via email if you want them sent via post.

For all Mail orders, you will receive a card per item purchased, unless specified you don't want to receive cards.

Milennium Development goals

The Salvation Army International Development Office (SAID) is committed to the fight against global poverty and inequality.

Through The Salvation Army in developing countries and with the support of our donors and the Australian Government (AusAid) we are reaching communities and implementing projects for self sustainability.

The implementation of the Millennium Development Goals include: halving extreme poverty, getting all children into school, closing the gap on gender inequality, saving lives lost to disease and the lack of available health care, and protecting the environment. These are huge commitments to improve the well-being of the world's poorest people.

In spite of all combined efforts the challenges of poverty are big:

  • 1 billion people in extreme poverty
  • 75 million children not in school
  • 10 million children die each year
  • 550,000 women die from treatable complications of pregnancy and birth
  • Over 33 million people infected with HIV/AIDS, of which 2 million die each year
  • Half of the developing world lacks sanitation

The Gifts That Keep on Giving Catalogue 2011-2012 focuses on 4 of the MDG's:

  • MDG 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
  • MDG 2: Combat HIV/AIDS Malaria and other Diseases
  • Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
  • Achieve Universal Primary Education
