Self Denial Appeal

13 February 2016

We'd like to invite you to bring hope to our international family during the 2016 Self Denial Appeal. From Sunday 14 February to Sunday 20 March, a six-week video series will air in Salvation Army churches across Australia and feature amazing stories from people in the communities of Jamaica, Myanmar, Moldova and India whose lives have been changed through donations to the Self Denial Appeal.

We trust these stories and the devotional material you use over the coming weeks will encourage and challenge you. Finally, and most importantly, we ask that you would prayerfully consider a generous gift to this year’s Self Denial Appeal and consider signing up for online giving for the year at our website. Here you can choose to give monthly, quarterly or just once off. Regular giving benefits our overseas mission by providing reliable income, as well as assisting with strategy and planning.

Please give as much as you can to the 2016 Self Denial Appeal. Together we can help our brothers and sisters in need around the world. To find out more about where the funds raised go, visit the page on the Self Denial website.

Week 1: One Family (14th February)
We start the series with interviews with four families about why they feel called to support the Self Denial Appeal, as well as their strong devotion to the work of Christ and The Salvation Army international family.

Week 2: Jamaica (21st February)
We meet Nigel in Jamaica who has been blind since birth and has attended The Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired from the age of four, where he learned to read and type braille and live independently.

Week 3: Myanmar (28th February)
Thein Thein Aye from Myanmar (Burma) was welcomed into a Salvation Army self-help group and given two small loans to purchase goats and ducks. See how it changed her life.

Week 4: Moldova (7th March)
Meet Dr Nicolai Caraman who helped start the Mobile Medical Clinic in Moldova 15 years ago. Today he shows the love of Jesus in helping a never-ending line of people who would otherwise not have access to health care.

Week 5: India (14th March)
When Aruna’s husband died she felt she had no choice but to accept her sister’s o er to work in her brothel, but Aruna met a Salvation Army community worker on the streets of Mumbai and her life was completely changed.

Week 6: Altar Service (21st March)
We conclude the series with a music video of the theme song ‘One Family, One Hope’, written and performed by Captain Catherine Mackenroth - Corps officer, Riverland Corps (South Australia).
