'Go for Souls, and Go for the Worst!'

Our People

Walking home late one night, through a desperately poor section of Victorian London, William Booth passed neglected children, beggars, prostitutes, drunken men. Where in the world, he thought, are people needy?

And as he walked, Booth heard God’s call. He made up his mind, ‘These people shall be our people, and they shall have our God for their God.’

In the years that followed, William and Catherine Booth discovered a way to take God’s love to the poor. They founded The Salvation Army, and saw it grow from small beginnings to a global force for God.

Our People tells their story and the story of the Army they led.
