
Chaplains’ Outreach
Oasis Chaplains run a coffee service and street patrols in the inner city area, making contact with young people living on the street. Chaplains build relationships and provide information for counselling, alcohol/ drug rehabilitation, legal assistance and accommodation. Chaplains also connect with young people in distress at hospitals, police stations and courts.
StreetConnect Bus
The StreetConnect Bus features laptop computers, wireless broadband connection and mobile phone access. Homeless young people are able to use this technology to search for accommodation and other support services, send and receive emails and at times reconnect with family and friends.
Intake Office
The Intake office is the first point of contact for young people coming to Oasis for care or refuge. Young people can also pick up their mail, make phone calls to family and/or arrange other support services.
Drop-in Centre
The Oasis drop in centre provides services to young people under the age of 25 years who are having difficulty attaining and sustaining adequate and secure accommodation. Services include; breakfast, shower and laundry facilities from 8:30am – 10:30am Monday to Thursday.
Crisis Accommodation
Oasis is located in Surry Hills and provides a safe and secure crisis accommodation service for disadvantaged or homeless young people aged 16-21 years. Youth Workers are available 24 hours a day to assist young people who are in crisis with accommodation needs, development of living skills and assistance with accessing appropriate services and programs. In addition, Case management is available to all young people accommodated within the service to assist with identifying immediate needs as well as long term goals. Individualised support is provided to assist young people in achieving outcomes and offer referral and support to Oasis and other external programs within the community.
Transitional Accommodation
Vera Loblay House
Vera Loblay House provides stable, long-term accommodation for young people aged 16-25 years who are committed to pursuing their education, training or employment goals, and have identified the need for support to make positive lifestyle changes. The service provides young people the opportunity to develop and demonstrate the ability to live independently with the availavbility of 24-hour live-in support, regular case management meetings and attendance in weekly activities. Young people living within Vera Loblay House are encouraged to further develop community connections through participation in social programs, education, training or employment. Vera Loblay House was kindly donated by the Loblay family.
Francis Street
Francis Street is a semi-independent accommodation service provided through a partnership between Oasis Youth Support Network and St George Community Housing. Francis Street provides a stable and secure living environment for young people aged 16-25 years and provides individualised support with the aim of young people moving towards full independence. Up to 18 residents are accommodated in studio style apartments bound by a standard tenancy agreement, and are required to participate in regular living skills and case management meetings. On-site case workers encourage and support personal growth and development, with the aim of facilitating the achievement of responsible independence.
Outreach Housing
Community based semi-independent accommodation is available to young people aged 16-25 years through partnerships between Oasis Youth Support Network and various community housing organisations. A range of affordable housing options are available for young people who are successful in maintaining independence and community connections. Individualised support is provided to each young person to compliment their transition towards independence.
Mental Health Reconnect
Mental Health Reconnect supports agencies that work with families and young people who are at-risk of becoming homeless and are experiencing stress and problems as the result of mental illness.
Helping Young People Achieve - HYPA
The HYPA program offers practical assistance for young people accessing Oasis Case Management who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, who use drugs/alcohol or are at risk of becoming involved in substance use. HYPA offers assistance with health, mental health, legal matters, education, income support, employment, accommodation and even rebuilding relationships and/ or staying connected with family.
Choices
Provides therapeutic services to young people aged between 16 – 25 years experiencing disadvantage or homelessness. Services include individual counselling, therapeutic groups and education programmes, and address concerns such as grief and loss, relationships, anxiety and depression, conflict, alcohol and other drugs, stress and managing change.
Friday Freeway
Funded by Price Waterhouse Coopers Foundation, Freeway provides recreation activities for young people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage. Freeway aims to equip young people with life skills, build self-esteem as well as challenge self-imposed limitations. Young people are challenged physically and mentally through action orientated tasks such as climbing, abseiling, surfing, kayaking and camping.
StreetMedia
The StreetMedia multimedia centre offers fun workshops and intensive training across music, radio, film and photography. StreetMedia provides young people with a creative outlet for self expression and the opportunity to share their story through a verity of mediums.
Workshops and courses are run by organisations such as Musicians Making a Difference, Foxtel and the Australian Centre for Photography as well as independent DJ’s and film producers.
Young Parents Program - YPP
The Young Parents Program provides social and educational workshop as well as individual referral and support to vulnerable young mothers and fathers. Weekly workshops include cooking and nutrition, child development and behaviour, stress management, picnics, dental visits, social outings and visits to the childhood nurse.
Outreach Fitness Centre
In partnership with Virgin Active the Oasis Outreach Fitness Centre provides young people with the opportunity to increase their physical health and fitness as well as build self-esteem and confidence through regular fitness classes.
Oasis Schools
The Oasis Education Centres, located in Surry Hills and Chatswood, offer accredited education from basic literacy and numeracy up to Year 11 schooling. The Centres are run through the Youth Connections program - an Australian Government program that aims to re-engage young people that are disconnected from conventional education institutions. The Youth Connections program offers eligible participants flexible education with personalised plans and support.
Pathways Program
Pathways Program is a workplace preparation course that combines life skills, personal development, social activities and accredited work readiness training. Participants graduate from Pathways with a certificate of completion and a real job offered by business partners such as Woolworths, Australand and Mirvac. Oasis Employment Coaches provide support for 6 months following the job placement to ensure a successful transition into working life. Participants must be stable in their accommodation, legal matters and drug and alcohol issues to take part in this course.
Champions
Champions is a corporate engagement leadership program between Virgin Unite and Oasis, aiming to equip, educate and encourage formerly homeless young people to become passionate articulate advocates of youth homelessness.
Drivin’ 4 Employment
Drivin’ 4 Employment is a new driver training program run in partnership with City of Sydney that provides disadvantaged young people with the opportunity to get their drivers licence. The program also runs monthly road safety courses in partnership with NRMA, NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance and Armstrong Legal.
Property Plus Group - PPG
PPG is a social enterprise run by Oasis that places young people into a professional maintenance team - providing cleaning, gardening, painting and handyperson services. Participants get into the routine of work and become ‘job ready’ for the first time. PPG currently holds a small number of Government and private contracts and all profits come back to Oasis.
The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre
The Shopfront is a free legal service for homeless and disadvantaged young people aged 25 and under. The Shopfront is a joint project of Mission Australia, the Salvation Army and the law firm Freehills.
Youth Drug & Alcohol Court - YDAC
YDAC is a unique NSW Government program within the criminal justice system that assists young offenders aged 14-18 with drug and alcohol related offences. The program aims to prevent further drug use and/ or offences, and provides support with drug and alcohol rehabilitation, health, social and family issues.
