Self-proclaimed Head Chef

The smell of bacon and eggs cooking on the BBQ is pretty familiar at Oasis on a Thursday morning. Today was no exception, apart from the fact that they were being served by Brock*, one of our young people.  Brock has been a regular at Oasis for a little under a year and has always shown a bit of promise in the cooking department, but this morning he took it one step further, taking control of the BBQ tools and the volunteers who had originally come with the intention to serve him.

Being confident in ones self is not something that comes easily for many of the young people who access Oasis, but today Brock was self-assured and focused on his self-proclaimed role of Head Chef.  What we saw in him today is just one example of why we get up and come to work every morning.

He even took personal orders and cooked up an amazing breakfast for our General Manager, just the way she likes it – crispy bacon and runny eggs.

Every day is a fresh start for these young people; an opportunity to engage and grow in a positive way and we think Brock is off to a good start this morning.
