The Salvation Army provides legal assistance through our very own Salvo-established firm
Salvos Legal is a full-time, self-sustaining legal practice that provides legal services to two categories of clients:
Commercial clients - These are fee paying individual and corporate clients. The legal services offered to these clients include transactional property and conveyancing, wills and estates, and general commercial advisory services. All funds received from our commercial clients go to paying the whole costs of the services we provide to our humanitarian clients - as such, we are a not-for-profit law firm.
Humanitarian clients - These are individuals in need who are unable to afford a lawyer. Legal services are provided to these clients on a pro bono, free of charge basis, including full-time representation in courts and tribunals in areas of criminal law, family and children’s law, debt, housing, Centrelink and migration & refugee law. We strive to engage our humanitarian clients with the full range of services they need by harnessing the enormous abilities of the wider Salvation Army, including drug and alcohol rehabilitation, crisis accommodation, financial counselling, employment assistance, welfare and pastoral care. Ours is a model of holistic care, to help the whole person, not just as a band-aid solution to the legal issue at hand.
