I can see you rolling your eyes right now. It’s Valentine’s Day and the last thing you want to see is gooey-eyed romantic couples in your face all day.
Or maybe you are that gooey-eyed romantic who has forgotten what it is like to be single and are rubbing your Valentine’s Day plans in your friend’s face.
Valentine’s can be a sad day for some and a happy one for others. While I might not know how you will feel this Valentine’s Day, I do know that some of you will probably think about love – maybe you are in love, or you want to be in love, or maybe the thought of being in love is too scary for you to handle.
Whether you want to be in love, are in love or even if you're scared of being in love with someone, have you ever thought about whether or not you’re in love with Jesus?
Yes, Valentine’s Day is about the feelings you have for that special someone but do you know what it is like to experience love from Jesus?
Don't get me wrong here. I’m not talking about gooey-eyed romantic, Jesus-is-my-boyfriend love.
I’m talking about genuine, unfailing, ever-forgiving, perfect love – the love only Jesus can give you.
What does this love look like? Romans 8:38-39 paints a pretty good picture of what this love looks like. It’s a love that takes away our fears, always protects and will always be there. This love does not fall away.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Have you felt this love before? If not the key is to choose it. God can shower you with love but you may not experience it because you are too consumed with your problems or figuring life out on your own.
Let go of all worry, all fear, stubborness, rejection, bitterness or whatever it is that’s holding you back and seek out God’s love. He promises to return it.
I know many of us probably wouldn’t usually devote any thoughts to our love for Jesus on Valentine’s Day, but maybe we should?
