Hi, my name is Alyce Neil, I’m 22-years-old and I’m a senior soldier at Tuggeranong Corps in the ACT and South NSW Division. I am a room leader at the Binara Early Childhood Centre and I just love working with kids.

Recently I was asked the question “How has God been using me to minister to people?” My mind automatically went to where I work and some of the conversations I have been having with a few of my work colleges. All the staff know I am a Christian (and the only one there) and that I choose to belong to The Salvation Army.

One day, one of the girls at work told me that her family attends a Catholic church, and then went on and asked me to explain the difference between my religion and her family’s religion. I shot up a quick prayer, “please God don’t let me stuff this up!”

So I told her that we both believe in the same God who he sent his son Jesus to earth to die on the cross for our sins, and I went on to explain some of the differences as best as I could. From that conversation I have had many more and I look forward to her asking me more questions so that maybe one day she might come to the understanding of the God that I have. Some days, after our conversations she will say things like, “I should come see your church one day” to which I respond “yes you should!” So who knows, one day I may have her sitting next to me listening to a sermon. But until then I will keep answering those questions and I will continue to pray for her and the journey we are on.

I love the opportunities God keeps throwing my way to share my story and how having faith in God shapes my life and the decisions I make. What I really enjoy is when my co-workers point out the differences they see in me. I have a little prayer that I say each time as I walk up to the gate at my work and this is what I say, “God, let your light shine through me today. Let something I do or say today touch someone’s life in some way.”
