Failure hurts. Sometimes it can give you this sick feeling like someone has just punched you in the stomach. Trying to live up to expectations is already scary enough but when you lose control or drop the bundle and you fail, it’s much scarier.
Disappointing your family, your friends, or even your church leader can be difficult. While failure helps us grow, and many people will tells us that, it doesn’t always make the process of failure any easier. When you’re going through it, it’s hard when people judge you for your actions.
What is even worse is your own self-condemnation. We condemn ourselves and tear ourselves down when we fail. And this can leave us feeling worthless about ourselves.
Romans 8:1 says: “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ,” (NLT).
Condemnation is defined as casting judgement upon someone or something whether it’s your computer that refuses to load, or your friend who spreads a rumour about your, or whether you criticise your own actions.
The verse upon tells us that we are free of judgement from God when we fail. The verse continues on to explain why saying:
“For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads us to death. The law of Moses could not save us because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent his own Son in a human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God destroyed sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sin.”
This passage of Scripture shows us that can live free of judgement through the blood of Jesus. This is such an amazing promise. While it is amazing, the only way you to be free is to believe it.
Failure does not define us. While you might feel that failure has not only defined your present but your future, Jesus’ love covers all our mistakes and failures whether past, present or future.
While you may feel judged by others, remember it’s not their opinion that counts. It’s God’s opinion that counts. Remember that Jesus has washed away all our failures and offers us forgiveness and freedom.
Mistakes will nearly always have consequences. And sometimes it’s really hard going through that journey to freedom when you are faced with consequences and judgement from others.
When faced with these consequences the best thing you can do is to start to receive healing from Jesus. Sometimes it’s not easy to believe the promise that we are free from condemnation while going through it. But God can help you.
In the youtube clip above, if you haven’t already listened to it, is a song called How He Loves Us performed by the Christian rock band, Jesus Culture.
In the chorus it says: He loves us. Oh how he loves us. Oh how he loves us. Oh how he loves us.
Sing these words over your life. While they are simple, they are powerful. These words can heal you simply because it’s a promise from our heavenly father. Whether you speak or sing it let the words sink into your heart and start to believe them. Remember, the Lord our God makes all things work together for our good – whether good or bad his love will always remain.
