Letter to my 18-year-old self

8th September 2011 by MORE

Dear Steve,

Greetings in the name of Jesus.

I trust your walk with Jesus is continuing to grow as it has now been a couple of years since you gave your life to him.

Over the coming years you will realise that God will be with you every step of the way. Your walk with him may not always be in unison, but remember, you are the one who has walked at a different speed and sometimes in another direction – you left God’s side, he didn’t leave you!!

Over the next few years listen out for God's voice because he will be placing a call of ministry upon your life. It will be a bit out of the box as you are called to work for a Christian holiday company. In saying yes to this calling, your life will change forever. You will have the opportunity to see all of Europe and experience living in Europe. Get ready because you will fall in love with the most beautiful lady you will ever meet, you will marry her and end up living on the other side of the world!!!

To get to that point of living in Australia, make sure that you trust God with everything: including your visa, your job, a place to live, how you are going to tell your mum, dad, along with the rest of the family, as well as thinking what’s life like going to be like in Sydney.

You will have to leave your home church; you will join a new denomination!!! The Salvation Army!!!! Who are they? You didn’t really know anything about them, even though they started in your country of birth, about 70kms from where you grew up.

The life that you will have in Sydney will be great. It is a fantastic city to live and work in – very different weather to what you experienced in the UK! One of the hardest areas to get used to is celebrating Christmas in summer. I am only just getting used to it and this coming Christmas will be my 16th.

God has been amazing. Rhonda and I married in October 1995. God has blessed us with three beautiful and amazing children, Arabella nine, Elliott five and Jenna 21 months. They are great children. Being a dad is a real blessing and I can go as far as saying it’s the best job in the world, along with being the hardest.

The story of how our family was formed is a letter in itself. I can write to you in the coming days if you want to hear more about it? God has again been with us every step of the way; he has opened up some amazing doors along with teaching us so much. All the praise and glory goes to him.

I am still involved in ministry, and enjoying it, learning everyday along with leaning on God. However, I am also conscious that the devil wants to get in to my life on a daily basis, so please be aware of this and protect yourself in prayer.

In closing when I celebrated my 18th birthday a verse of Scripture was given to me. Hebrews 13:8; “Christ Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever”. Praise God this is true.

In Christ love

Steve
