Guyzone: Too many people to please

28th July 2011 by Wes Bust

I was on twitter the other day reading through the tweets from the people that I follow and I read one from Matthew Barnett who is the Senior Pastor at The Dream Centre in Los Angeles USA.

His tweet said the following:

“The secret to defeating discouragement is to narrow the audience you are trying to please down to ONE.”

This tweet probably took about 15 seconds to post but honestly for us it can take a lifetime to master the concept.

Meeting peoples expectations

So hopefully you've already watched the clip above and if you're not a fan of Parks and Recreation – well you should be. So if you've never watched the show, then you need to understand that Ron Swanson ONLY eats MEAT! I love the part in this clip when Ron nearly faints because he's getting a vegetarian version of a steak – I'm still not convinced that even exists!

Ron is not an easy man to please and his expectations were definitely not met in this instance.

How do you feel when you don't meet people's expecations? Do you feel discouraged?

How true is it as guys that we try to be all that we can be, but we get discouraged because we try to meet everyone’s expectations for us.

How life changing will it be when we can get our audience down to ONE, the ONE who created us to be all that we can be, the ONE who we want to be like, who we are made in the image of.

Spend some time this week trying to bring your audience down, maybe from 20 down to 15 and then a few more next week so that ultimately we are striving for the audience of ONE.
