4th March 2011 by Amy Peterson

2011 has already brought so many events, and it's only March! Some of those events however, haven't been so welcome. We've seen floods, cyclones and earthquakes that have both affected us directly or indirectly and brought devastation and pain to ours and neighbouring countries.
If your friends know you're a Christian, you may be facing some pretty challenging questions right now as to why our God would let this happen.
We don't always know why some things happen to us but one thing is for sure: God is good. Now if you told your friends this right now I can imagine it would be a hard thing for them (or even yourself) to hear and that big question pops up: "If he is so good why would He let something like this happen to us?"
God is not the author of tragedy. In fact, when Christ died for you on the cross he took upon himself, not just sin, but also all of sin's friends, being sickness, pain, grief, torment and sorrow. He took them all and they no longer belong to us. But because we live in a world full of sin, Satan sometimes has his way and so tragedy strikes.
Let's check out a story in the Bible about a blind man and what Jesus said about this. John 9:1-5 says,
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'
"'Neither this man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world'."
God loves his children and doesn't want to see us in pain. But sometimes tragedy affects us because we live in a world where sin has invaded. Just like the blind man, he didn't do anything wrong and neither did his parents! God did not intend for him to be blind. He was simply under curse's grip which was not God's will, but the curse of sin.
But God has won the victory! Jesus came and set Him free from his blindness so he could see for the first time! It is His will that we live abundantly. He will bring you through the pain and tragedy because He loves you. He will bring out whatever good He will in the situation and strengthen, heal you and make you whole once again!
We need to claim that victory in Christ over our circumstances and our friends' circumstances so that God's heart and the glory and goodness of God will be revealed and win the victory. Don't let your circumstances hold you, let God have them.
God is the author of goodness including the salvation of your friends, family and anyone else in your life that you want to see saved. Did you know that the salvation of your friends has already been planned out and created and is alive in heaven?
Matthew 6:10 says, "Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."
It is in heaven! So pray that what is in heaven will be on earth. It will take time, and sometimes waiting is hard. We want it to happen now, like two minute noodles. We pray for two minutes and then expect the "beep beep!" of the microwave and it to be ready.
God's timing is always perfect, so simply wait on him to move. You will see afterwards just why He wanted your mum to come to know him at that moment, your best friend to fall at his feet at that moment or you teacher to acknowledge him at that moment.
I'm hearing stories now after I've left school of people lining up to receive healing from God after seeing others being healed and I'm seeing now seeds that were planted long ago starting to grow. God is good! His will is perfect and His love for you is indescribable.
Don't be anxious for things to happen, but trust and find peace in God and knowing that He will have the victory, no matter what your circumstance is!
Be blessed, be filled, be loved and Be love!
