It's starting to look a lot like Christmas...

6th December 2010 by Esther Pinn

I love Christmas trees. I love the pretty fairy lights. And I love presents. But who doesn't? And don't pretend you're not counting down the days until Christmas morning, because secretly we all are (even the adults).

Be Thankful

It's a magical time of year where everything appears perfect and it's easy believe the fantasy that no one suffers at Christmas. It's Christmas – it's the time when all our dreams come true. Right ...?

But do they ...?

It's so easy to take it all for granted and I sometimes get frustrated at Christmas because I spend so much time running between different family houses that I don't have time to even enjoy it.

Then, I think of those who have nothing and I feel selfish. How can I wish Christmas away when I have everything I could ever want – family, presents and plenty of food?

This Christmas let's be thankful for what we have been given. Let's not take it for granted.

What can I give?

After watching our Salvation Army Communications Director Major Peter Sutcliffe on the Today show talking about the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, I felt convicted. I decided right then and there I didn't want to sit around in my Christmas bubble this year. I wanted to make a difference.

So, one Friday night after work I drove down to Kmart and bought a gift, wrapped it and placed it under the tree.

Why don't you give it a try? Whether you are buying a present for the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, or just inviting a friend over to share Christmas lunch with your family, it's an awesome feeling to know you have blessed someone's life this Christmas.

Fill up on His food

Who doesn't love their Mum's Christmas turkey or ham? Well, if you're anything like me, eating is one my favourite parts of Christmas. Don't get me wrong, the presents are great but the food is just so yummy!

So, while you stuff your face (I know I will) this Christmas with all the delicious foods, remember to fill yourself with Jesus.

Today is a celebration of the birth of Christ – the Saviour who came to bring you life. Spend some time reflecting on His love for you.

I'm sure you've all heard this phrase, "Jesus is the reason for the season" and while it may sound corny it does have truth to it. It's so easy to get caught up in the presents that we often forget that Jesus is the whole reason we have Christmas.

He gave so much for us so let's give something back to Him this Christmas – our time.

  1. Cool article. I always want to do something for others @ Christmas but I never know quite what to do.

You've inspired me to put a present under the K-Mart wishing tree.

I hope others do the same.

  2. "Remember to fill yourself with Jesus". I was so happy to read this :)

    Nice article!
