I've found that helping other people helps me.

In recent years I've made a big effort to help others. I've shaved my head for The World's Greatest Shave, I've organised the World Vision 40 hour famine for our youth group and recently I've been really going out of my way to help my friends when they're going through difficult stuff.

Sometimes I really don't feel like helping the people around me because I don't feel sure that I have the right words to say and I'm scared it will be awkward. But when I push past that feeling, I find that God uses me.

When I do something unselfish it makes me feel stronger – it makes me feel like I'm doing something in my life that's worthwhile – like I have purpose.

It grows my relationship with God because it makes me feel more confident that God can use me. For those around me who are not Christians, hopefully they'll see something different about me and start thinking about God.
