I'm 16 and from Wollongong Salvos.
I have a close friend. She has broken down to me and told me she has a hard time at home and that she doesn't really get along with her parents.
We go to a Catholic School and she does all the prayers and stuff, but she tells me she doesn't believe in God and doesn't know why people do.
I haven't had the guts to share my story with her.
When I came to Gospel Arts Camp (GAC) this year I had the expectation that God was going to move in my life but I didn't know what to expect. I prayed that I wouldn't get distracted so I would hear what he was saying to me.
On Tuesday morning, Robbin Moulds spoke and said there is one person in our lives that God is telling us we have to help and be a friend to. She said that we don't need to save heaps of people but there is just one person he is calling us to help and that we are totally capable of helping. We might be their Jesus.
When she finished and asked us each to write down the "one" God was calling us to help, it suddenly clicked in my head that she was the one God was calling me to help. It wasn't like, "Oh my gosh, you need to go tell her all about God." It was more like, I need to be her friend and as we get closer, to share my story with her and hopefully that will lead to a change.
When I go back to school and she asks me about camp, she'll probably just expect me to talk about the boys I met. I'll make sure I tell her about everything – about the testimonies young people shared. I'll let her know that other people are going through the stuff that she is and that God is helping them through it.
I really hope she comes to GAC next year. There aren't stacks of young people at my church, so I think something like GAC will encourage her heaps. The atmosphere there is amazing. It's almost impossible not to be affected by it.
