I love surfing. Well, to tell you the truth, I can't actually surf. But I love watching people surf. I love the ocean and how its waves are so spontaneous. I love the moment after a surfer has been waiting and waiting and suddenly a wave begins to build up and the surfer seizes the moment and jumps on board to ride with it.
About a month ago I learnt a very important lesson about how God works. You see, He already knows what will take place in our lives – both when and where. His will is already set and we shouldn't try to act out what we think is His plan in our own way and own strength. If we do this, it will only lead to dead ends and without result.
Instead we need to wait for him to move, just like waiting for the wave. As Christians, we are simply vessels used by God to fulfil His plan. He doesn't need us but He chooses to use us. His plan will take place no matter what, just like the wave will come regardless if the surfer is riding it or not. It's just up to us whether we will jump on board with it or not. We cannot speed up or slow down the wave or process. God's plan will happen as he chooses.
It's the same with our friends. We simply have to wait until we see God moving, and when we do, jump on board, work and ride with it. God is in control here and He has work for us to do. Let's ride the wave!
This is a very important time in the lead up to whatever God is about to do in your life and those around you. It's a time to pray for your friends; to intercede and pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. It's a time to submit yourself entirely to God as you wait and He will teach you and prepare you for the work He has for you to do. In this time you should learn more about who God is: "Be still and know that I am God," Psalm 46:10.
The more you learn about who God is, the more you recognise when he is working. James 1: 17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." In other words, all things good are of God – anything that is of Heaven is of God's nature and anything that isn't, is not of His nature. This is just one example of who God is, but as you get to know Him more, you will learn to recognise His ways. It is also important to be aware of opportunities that God gives you and to take them (these are the waves!).
Riding the wave is probably the most exciting part. Here you start seeing God work, and you know it is by His power because all you did was submit! It's incredible! In this time, it doesn't mean that you have left the waiting stage. You need to continue to submit in the wave as well as when you are waiting. This is so that God can continue to use you more and more as you submit more and more to Him. So just remember to submit and wait on God and He will amaze you!
Happy Surfing!
