Ever felt like you were all alone in a fight?
I want to talk about a war ... is that okay?
I'm pretty sure it is, coz we're all blokes; I LOVE war movies, actually, I love WW2 movies!! There is no greater enemy than the Nazis right? They are evil, they look cool, they speak German (which sounds so aggressive) – you couldn't make up a better enemy!!
Anyway, that has nothing to do with anything.
I want to talk about the war we are involved in! Whether you know it or like it, we are actually involved in a spiritual war! Now some people like to think this war is just a metaphor, and The Salvation Army is just a cool name for a church – but I want to tell you that this war is real – lives are at stake!!
Put bluntly, people are going to hell, unless we as an 'Army' stand up and do something about it!
Not only that, but people are living in hell right now on earth! It is our job as an 'Army' to do something about that. It is our job to fight!!!!!!
Now the cool thing about being in an army is that we are not trying to fight the forces of evil by ourselves. It's not like we're Batman and we have to do it alone! In fact the whole point of this article (took me awhile to get there) is that in this war – wherever you are fighting – school/work/uni/home – YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
I know it feels lonely, I know it feels like you don't have allies, I know that telling your friends about Jesus is hard when you think you're the only one ...
Can I give you a couple of stats?
This army that we are a part of "The Salvation Army":
We are the second biggest army in the world!!
Alone? – Def not!!
So:
Remember that there are thousands of others fighting the same battle!
I love that we have other human allies. In fact, it gives me fuel to know that there are people going through the same battles as me around the world; but the reality is that even if it was just me – I still wouldn't be alone!
Wanna hear some really good news?
Not only do we have human allies, but we also have the "Creator of the Universe" with us always!
We have a God who is always with us! The Holy Spirit was given to always be with us; to comfort, inspire, empower and convict us.
Even when we stuff up and make bad choices – we have a Father who will forgive and take us back. (Read Luke 15:11-32 to get the full story.)
Anyway, I've had a bit of a rant but I just want you to know that even though things feel lonely at times, you are not alone, we're in this together!
