What would we really be passionate about in life if there was nothing to distract us from it?
I had this crazy idea earlier this year about doing an experiment. A distraction experiment. I had noticed how easy it was to totally miss things when there were distractions around. So I was kinda curious...what difference would it make to what I pursue as important and valuable in life if I was able to get rid of the big distractions in my life?
So, I began an experiment where every fortnight I add a distraction to my list of things that I'm trying to get rid of for the rest of the year. Things like chocolate, lollies (yes, I'm a comfort eater), TV, buying new "stuff", daydreaming...
Maybe a little extreme - I think my friends think I'm a bit crazy! Still, it has been pretty eye-opening. I've discovered that so much of my time and energy has been going towards things that I don't actually value...and also that there are a bunch of things that I thought made me happy, which actually didn't do much at all.
What things are important to you? Is anything distracting you from them?
