Hi, my name is Andrea, I was born into a Catholic family and when I was young, I was taught the traditions that many of my relatives followed. I learnt traditional Catholic prayers and went to church on special occasions. I knew that my family were Christians, but home wasn't the place where I could really build on the foundations of my beliefs.
I was lucky enough to be sent to a Christian school where I learnt what it means to be a true Christian and have an intimate relationship with God. Through my primary school years I began to learn more about God at school. I knew that I was a Christian, but I didn't always feel like I lived like one. I thought that being a Christian meant doing good things – I didn't really know a lot about how I could have a close relationship with God.
As I got older I kept thinking and praying about it, then at the beginning of year seven a friend invited me to her youth. At the end of the night, the youth leaders asked if anyone wanted to recommit their life to God, and that night I chose to recommit to him.
From then on, I knew that my life was going to be different. I was completely motivated to live a life for God, and I knew that I had begun on the path of getting to KNOW him. Since then I've continued to grow in him at school.
When I was young my parents divorced, and life wasn't always easy at home, we especially struggled at times with money. Even though we struggled with having enough money, I've managed to stay at the same school for my whole life, even though there were times when I almost had to leave.
I know it was part of God's plan to keep me there. Through the things he's done for me I can see that he was always there looking after me, and through the tough times he helped me to grow.
I've learnt how much better life is when you get to live it with God. And I've learnt that God has a plan for everyone. Even when it seems as though he's no longer looking after you, he is, because I know it's his plan to use the tough times for the greater good.
We believe in a God of the present, and reckon there is always something that you can share with others about God’s work in your life. Whether you’ve shared a story before or not, don’t be put off submitting three, four or twenty save-grow-serve stories! Don't delay, click here today!
