Red Shield Appeal: Doorknock results

1st June 2010 by Julia Hosking

We'd like to make a big shout out to everyone who collected for, or donated to, the Red Shield Appeal last weekend! Thank you for knocking on doors and opening doors so that The Salvation Army can open the door to those in need.

On Sunday night 30 May, the national doorknock total stood at $6.8 million – this is five per cent more than the same time last year.

The goal for the doorknock is $9.7 million, and the counting is still going, so there is confidence that the goal will be reached. The doorknock goal is part of the total Red Shield Appeal target of $75 million (this comes from businesses, direct deposits and individuals).

On Sunday night, out of Queensland, NSW and the ACT (the Australia Eastern Territory), Queensland saw the biggest increase on last year's results of seven per cent to $886, 200. NSW received a whopping $3.5 million (two per cent increase) and the ACT collected $203, 000 (four per cent increase).

"Such a minor effort for such a major cause. Only a few hours on a Sunday morning once a year is all it takes to make such a difference in the lives of those that need it. I have been participating in the Red Shield Appeal for most of my life. Now 17 years old I feel a rewarding sense of duty to take part in my church's local collection. It is a blessing for me to know that my small contribution will go a long way as God uses the funds collected for a much larger plan and purpose."
