These are all great things in our lives, right?
I love sport, I love watching sport, and I'd love to go to more games of footy but my team is really, really bad so it hurts too much.
I also love music. I love going to shows and seeing bands, but just like the sport worshipping that was happening in the clip, I see people raising their hands, screaming, and crying. It kinda reminds me of people worshipping at church.
Like I said, these things can be great things in our lives, but do they get in the way? Do we worship them?
As Christian blokes we've prob heard that we need to put Jesus number one in our lives and as long as he is the number one priority everything is all ok. Sounds good right? Well, I'm not so sure ...
I wanna tell you that that attitude would NOT work with my wife!
Let's imagine I had lots of girlfriends ... I know that's a very easy thing to imagine considering my charm and charisma, my bushy beard and hairy chest ... As long as Suzie (my wife) was my number one girl and all the other girls were lower priorities, all would be ok wouldn't it?
Of course not!
Why do we think differently with Jesus? He should be the ONLY one receiving our worship! The commandments tell us in pretty plain terms.
"I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands." (Exodus 20:2-6 NLT)
Get that? The Bible goes as far to say that God is a jealous God!
So how do we move from having Jesus as number one on a big list of things we worship to being the only object of worship?
Ask yourself these questions:
Have a think about these things, and then ask God to search your heart and point out anything that is getting in the way.
Do it – I dare you!!
