Easter has come and gone for another year and we can go about our everyday lives again. I mean, we get a 4 day weekend which is awesome. We eat way too much chocolate than any human body can handle in one sitting. We hang out with friends. We have family come and visit. And so on and so on ...
Most of us go to church over Easter too ... twice for that matter.
We focus on the sacrifice of Jesus on Good Friday and how the ultimate death was just for you and me. Our sins are forgiven. Jesus paid the price. The burden has been lifted from our shoulders onto his shoulders. There is healing. We are broken to become whole. We are free. Hallelujah!
Then comes Easter Sunday. I love this day. It's one of those dates in my calendar that I cannot wait for. I love a party. I love to celebrate. I love the atmosphere. Turning up to church on Easter Sunday was still its usual struggle after getting kids ready and packing all their gear to take. But I had this deep expectation that overcame my stress of just getting to church. I was going to a "victory" party ... a party like no other! I walked into church, Jordan in one arm, all his stuff in the other with purpose and excitement. I was ready to praise Jesus because he is alive and he has conquered death. I found my seat and was ready to go. I was ready to worship my Saviour ... the one who died for me and who has now risen so I can have life. I wasn't disappointed. It was an amazing day and God did some cool stuff in the lives of people. It was the best party I've been to in a while.
But, then I went home and it didn't take long for my everyday life to kick into gear again and the experience of the victory party seemed like a distant memory.
Young people, I want to say to you that God's Victory Party is not just reserved for Easter Sunday. You can live and walk in His victory every day of your life.
Believe the above words from Scripture and blend them with the victorious life God has for you. Know that Easter has a far greater purpose than a long weekend, chocolate, time with friends or even time at church. It is about a Saviour who had a plan ... and that plan includes you.
If you are from south queensland you may have attended youth councils a few weeks ago. What a time it was? God moved in a mighty way throughout the weekend and lives [maybe even yours] were impacted. If you were not there, other events have that same influence on you. You are on a spiritual high. You are surrounded with likeminded people. You have a great time. God speaks. You hear. You leave confident. You leave strong. You are fired up. You leave ready to change the world.
But then you go home and just like me after Easter Sunday your everyday life kicks back into gear. Your experience from the event [from God] seems like a distant memory and fades away.
Young people, join me and say NO to the fire going out.
Jesus had a plan to change the world and that plan has not changed. The plan starts one life at a time. It starts with you. It starts with you accepting the victory and walking in the victory. But don't leave the victory behind until next Easter. Pick it up. Put it on. Take it with you everywhere you go. It's yours to keep.
You are forgiven ... You are set free ... You have a future full of hope ... You are victorious.
Until next time.
Nigel.
