Easterfest is just around the corner ... If you haven't heard about it, it's the biggest Christian music festival in Australia held in Toowoomba, Queensland every Easter weekend and it attracts some of the biggest bands from around the world.
One of the headline acts this year is Hawk Nelson and Live Life Loud is the fourth studio album from these Canadian boys and is a follow up to Hawk Nelson is My Friend.
From start to finish it is a classic pop rock album and within the first few tracks you get the feel for what's to come. Whilst it's not particularly memorable, it's also far from offensive and quite catchy at times. It reminds me of old school Good Charlotte ... nice big hooks and the kind of thing you want to shout along to in the car.
If you're young and fit you'll be up jumping around to tracks like Live Life Loud and Never Enough; and if you're old and lazy you'll enjoy the chilled reggae sounds of Ode to Lord Stanley.
There are not a whole lot of obvious spiritual themes coming through for most of the album, but more so a call for people to live their lives loud and abundantly - to enjoy life while it's there.
This being the case, it caught me a little by surprise to stumble across the anthemic hymn 'Tis So Sweet at the end of the album. It works pretty well and is perhaps a clear indicator of the heart that drives the whole shebang.
Live Life Loud is not a bad album at all; it's definitely worth a listen if you're a long-time fan or if pop rock is what you're into.
In terms of spiritual content, it's totally accessible for people who haven't been to church before so would be a sweet album to get your un-churched mates onto and at least get them thinking on positive stuff. Who knows, it might even start a great conversation.
