saying Goodbye

5th March 2010 by Rusty Hodges

Cheerio, ciao, sayonara, hooroo, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, Goodbye. However you say it, at someone point in our lives we will say goodbye to someone or something.

Saying goodbye can be upsetting, it can be a difficult time. Especially if you are saying goodbye because it may be the last time you will see that person or pet or thing. Sometimes it can feel like your heart has been ripped out.

I'm sure you could tell your story about saying goodbye. I've just recently had to say goodbye to an old friend. Someone I loved very much. I was upset but not overwhelmed by the grief. Sometimes the grief of loosing someone can be overwhelming as we struggle to cope under the burden of it. We all face grief in many different ways and no way is the right way to deal with it. I can only share what helped for me.

I think God was preparing me for this event as he had been speaking to me from 1 Peter 5.

I found comfort in the fact that God cares about me so much that he is actually interested in what I am going through.

1 Peter 5:7 says ... "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

So that's what I did. I simply let God know how I was feeling. I cried myself to sleep over my loss but also cried out to God to heal the ache inside. And He gave me a peace and took away my burden. I'll always miss my old friend but that's ok. I know God cares about everything I face, so I can say goodbye and know that God is walking alongside of me, carrying me when I struggle to keep going.

So if you have faced saying goodbye to someone recently and are still living under the burden of grief, try casting all your worries on God. You know He cares about you so much.
If you need to talk to someone about your grief maybe talk to your youth leader or corps officer. Sometimes talking can really help

Till next time
