grow- abe unicomb

15th February 2010 by Julia Hosking

I was already passionate about God before Gospel Arts Camp (GAC), but this week I feel like I've moved to a new level in my relationship with God. At camp, you're free of all distractions and do a lot of stuff that helps you grow.

For electives, I did worship and brass. I already knew that worship wasn't just about music but in the worship elective, this was reinforced. Worship is about glorifying God. So if I show kindness to someone, that act in itself is worship because it is glorifying God.

Before camp, I wasn't heaps excited about brass, but at GAC, we played songs and had fun with them. This helped me enjoy brass and I saw how it could be used to worship God. Bible study groups were good too- we were so open and honest with each other. It was good to hear other people's experiences about their own corps. It also helped to get feedback from people your own age about your own life.

I went home determined to spend more time in God's Word. I want to really know more about it and keep on growing in my relationship. You always have a ‘high' after music camp and then it dies after a while. But I want to try and keep it up, and take everything I've learnt and experienced back to my own corps so I can spend regular time with God.

I think prayer is a massive part of growing with God. Because without communicating with someone, how do you get to know them better? My advice to other young people is if you want to know God better, start your day with prayer. I pray on the way to work and it makes my day so much better.
