I know that great leaders are always learning, so I was wondering what you think God is teaching you at the moment? It is kind of you to link me with great leaders. I don't consider myself in that category but I do believe that God called me to be a spiritual leader and all spiritual leaders should be lifelong learners. This requires reading and disciplined study. However, as you suggest, God teaches us and he is the Master teacher to me.
At the moment, he continues to teach me not to fear but to trust, and he reminds me daily that he is trustworthy. He also gives me wisdom in decision-making and ideas for sermons. He is my mainstay when it comes to giving leadership and learning how to do so within his will.
I would want Salvationists to be convinced that God raised us up for a purpose and he has a future for us if we totally rely on him. It's his Army and I refuse to undermine it or rubbish it or think everyone else does everything better than us. That frustrates his grace. And I believe he calls us to celebrate our missional identity.
I am always challenged by business matters since my training has not been in that field but with competent people around who know how to explain complex things simply, I have been able to understand the broad strokes. But to be honest, the biggest challenge for me is not abusing power but exercising spiritual authority.
