Ok, so it's been a few years since I was in highschool. And I'm not really into New Year's Resolutions. So overall that makes this a bit of a bizarre blog topic for me to write.
But if I was going to school this week, with the benefit of everything I've learned over the past few years, I think my Back To School Resolutions would look something like this...
I have a feeling that when I was in highschool I was pretty selfish and mainly interested in doing just the stuff I wanted to do. If I went back, I'd challenge myself to do something generous everyday - buy someone a Coke for no reason, stay back after class to help a teacher, just do something completely random simply to bless someone else.
And I'd make sure it wasn't just the same people every day. Share the love.
No, I wouldn't start a dating service. But I'd be heaps more intentional about introducing my school friends to my church friends and vice versa. Why did I never do that in highschool? They probably would have gotten on great.
If I had highschool all over again, I'd take some time to imagine what my highschool would look like if it was on fire for Jesus.
Then I'd play it a lot less safe, and take a lot more risks. I'd take risks on crazy ideas that would probably never work, and on stuff that other people thought was impossible. I wouldn't let anyone tell me it couldn't be done.
I'd probably fail a whole bunch, but it'd be worth it for the times when it worked. It'd probably be a whole lot of fun too.
I think in highschool I took church pretty seriously, but I'm not sure how serious I was about Jesus. Since leaving highschool, I've realised there's a pretty big difference. So my final resolution would be to make sure that Jesus was getting the best of my time, my thoughts and my energy everyday.
There's mine. I'm keen to know what others think!
Till next time =)
