Music Review: Kari Jobe

11th January 2010 by Claire Twivey

If you were at Hillsong Conference last year you probably would have heard - and if you're anything like me, totally fallen in love with - Kari Jobe. Being a singer myself, I appreciate an amazing female artist when I see one. So of course coming back from Hillsong her self-titled album was on my ‘must buy from Koorong ASAP' list.

If you like Brooke Fraser or Bethany Dillon, then Kari Jobe is for you. The songs have a pretty easy listening vibe - which is a massive contrast from the strong, arena-sized worship Jobe, and many of the ones listed above, are known for.

The first track on the album, I'm Singing is about as up-tempo as her album gets, but don't let that put you off. Listen on and there are some beautiful songs throughout.

One of the songs that I was surprised to hear on the album was Healer, written by Mike Guglielmucci. I think that including this song on the album was great. Despite Mike's story which came to the world's attention in 2008, I believe this song is still full of great truth and based completely on God's word. The lyrics, the music and the melody all are so powerful.

My favourite track on Jobe's album would have to be You Are for Me. I found myself singing along the first time I heard it, completely overwhelmed by the truth of the lyrics describing the way that the Lord will never forsake us in our weakness. He is bigger and stronger than any situation we could ever find ourselves in. How amazing is that!

Maybe you have forgotten who exactly God is, and how much he cares for you. Well, You Are for Me, and the whole album in fact, will bring you back into his court room with praise on your lips.

As Kari says on her website, "Music is a way to minister to people in times of trouble, to lead them to the feet of Jesus who can bring peace, life, hope and healing."

I hope that you get a chance to check it out, and I pray it touches you as much as it did me.

Bless ya!
