6th January 2010 by Shandri Brown

So I find the Christmas aftermath pretty funny. Going to the local Westfield in January means watching heaps of people returning the stuff that people bought them just knowing 'they would absolutely love it!'

My family and friends did pretty well this year, mostly giving me things that I truly do appreciate and would actually use. Still, there are always a couple of things that sneak their way in there that leave me scratching my head. I have a couple of loved ones who always give me something super bright and colourful. Even though I never walk around in things that make it look like a rainbow vomited on me they can't help themselves...they love crazy, bright colourful things, and so somehow their mind reasons that I must love it too.

I have a friend who swore that I was hooked on Caramello chocolate the other day. She went on about how she remembered it was my favourite. Now don't get me wrong, I am indeed a fan of all things chocolate but her memory seems to be confused by the fact that Caramello chocolate is her favourite, not mine.

It is so easy to buy people the things we like, in colours we think will suit them and miss the obvious signs of who they truly are. It reminds me of how much I hate it when people speak on my behalf and get it wrong.

A couple of years ago I heard one of the best youth communicators ever speak for the first time at a Boot Camp for young people. I was super impacted by his message and have been totally keen to hear him preach again. Well imagine my disappointment when the person choosing speakers for a future camp said "we better not get that guy back, Shandri didn't like him and wouldn't recommend him". What?!

Don't you hate it when people decide something for you, buy something for you, or speak on your behalf without really knowing you and what you really enjoy and what you would do in a situation?

Makes me wonder if Jesus should copyright his name and not allow it to be used by anyone without checking in with him first.

Man, I sure hear his name attached to a lot of things. We often talk about him like we know his every decision and what he would say to everyone, but can I honestly say that I know him that well? Something I want to try and do this year is make sure I am not quoting this guy unless I have checked with him first. I don't want to attach my preferences to him. I want to let him speak for himself.

Happy 2010,

Shandri

  1. Great Blog Shandri... I know my desire is to hear from God himself and get to know what he wants to say. I guess thats the truly awesome thing about the Holy Spirit. He guides us into all truth, he comforts us, he teaches us how we should act to certain situations.

I think its amazing that the God who created the whole universe wants to be in relationship with me...after everything i have done, said and thought he still wants to get to know me or actually he wants us to get to know him more and more each day so that we find the true life he has in store for us.

By the way... my favorite chocolate is dairy milk.... in case anyone was wondering and you can keep your rainbow vomit to yourself...thank you very much... LOL...

    cheers

  2. Its hard to know what people are thinking. Its a good idea to ask a person,or people how they,re going or what they like.Espesially when it comes to kids in schools, that are left out, bullied,or find it hard to speak out about what there home life is like.Christ lives in the holyspirit that lives inside of everybody. Its good to beable to pray... ex endeavour client
