The one thing

7th December 2009 by Jarrod Newton

I'm not interested in living some boring, uneventful, 'so-so' kind of life. I'm really not interested in just going through a daily routine for the next 50 years or so. I want excitement, I want fun, I want substance. I want to be part of something that's meaningful and significant. I want the kind of life that Jesus promises in John 10:10 when he says he came so that we can live 'life to the full'.

And so, I've been doing some good old-fashioned pondering lately. What's the secret? How do I stay tapped into the 'life to the full' that Jesus promises?

The more I think about it, the more I realise how little I actually know. There's so much that happens in my life that doesn't make sense. There are so many things every day that leave me frustrated. There are so many things about God and Jesus and Christianity that I just don't get.

But as I realise how much I don't know, I actually think I've become even more certain about one thing: The answer can only be found in being close to Jesus. In loving Jesus, in hanging out with Jesus, in being in relationship with Jesus. In making sure that my personal relationship with Jesus is my number 1 priority in life.

Jesus didn't show up and bury 'abundant life' in the ground so that we needed to hunt around for it like dogs looking for a lost bone. Nope, he came to offer 'life to the full' as a generous, extravagant gift.

So... how's your relationship with Jesus going? Are you close to him atm?

Till next time,

Jarrod Newton
