grow- ellyse brooks

12th November 2009 by Julia Hosking

I've never had anything bad happen to me, anything traumatising or completely life changing. When I hear other people's salvation stories I feel as though mine is boring.

Jesus Christ has always been a huge part of my life. He is like the gravitational force that keeps my family standing firm. Everything has to revolve around him when your parents are Salvation Army officers. Like every OK (officers kid) you always dread that year when you have to pack up and move- all in the name of God, because it's what he wants you to do.

I have always struggled with trust and being open with others. Also, I have always struggled with the concept of being open and trusting God, even though he knows more about me than I would ever know about myself. I am learning to trust, to take that leap of faith that proves to God that I believe. And I am willing to do whatever he wishes me to do.

We are all so self-absorbed in today's society that we never stop to think and realise that there are so many other people also concentrating on their own lives. Myself included. We are focused on finding the meaning or purpose for life. But we need to stop questioning and take that leap of faith; that step of trust. The step that will unite ourselves with the Father.

In October I went to the annual Gospel Arts Camp and the impact was so overwhelming. Being my first camp I did not know what to expect. To be perfectly honest, I had no expectations. At the camp there was a real atmosphere and presence of the Holy Spirit. People were touched and lives were changed. I have given everything over to God. I am sick of having to worry and care about everything going on around me. I am sick of being so self-absorbed. Which is why I have taken that leap of faith and that step of trust.

It's time to stop questioning God, it's time to stop being so self absorbed, it's time to trust and be open, it's time to prove ourselves to him and to give everything we have over to God.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future " (Jeremiah 29:11).

It's time. Because God has a plan for you.

Ellyse... I am so happy for you... it takes so much courage and faith to give up your life entirely for God. I really hope God works Miracles in your road ahead and that you can use this immense strength in faith.
