Foaming Mouth Wash

6th November 2009 by Shandri Brown

Works best for:

Up-front before an audience. When it works well it can be used as a quick game to fill 5 minutes. Can be run with any amount of competitors but usually 3 or 4 works well.

You will need:

  • A box of Alka Seltzer tablets.
  • A bottle of Coke (or cans).
  • Wide roll of tape (Duct tape or gaffer tape)
  • Buckets or large bin.

Prep:

Have everything you need lined up ready for a smooth transition between games. Either each competitor should have their own bucket or you should have a large bin for them all to share.

Cut off strips of tape to about 15 cm long (1 for each competitor). Have 1 cup of coke (or can of coke) for each competitor and an alka seltzer tablet ready for them.

The game:

Each competitor puts an alka seltzer tablet in their mouth (or 2 if it is a leader's round) and takes a mouthful of coke. As soon as the tablet and coke are in their mouths the piece of tape gets pressed firmly across their mouth. Nobody may swallow anything in their mouth (why would you want to?) and the aim is simply to be the last person remaining who has not ripped off their tape and spat out the foaming mouth wash into the bucket.

Notes:

  • If you are having a couple of rounds make sure you don't leave cups of coke waiting for round 2. It is amazing how quickly it loses its fizz which makes round 2 a real bore. Open the coke right before you want it in their mouths.
  • Get your camera ready for some great shots of young people with foam spouting out from below their tape, or maybe coming out their nose.
  • Don't share cups. Make sure each competitor has their own cup or can so you don't spread manky germs.
