My PNG experience - Abby Wells

21st July 2009 by Jarrod Newton

Reflecting upon her experience in Papua New Guinea with the Sydney Youth Band, Abby Wells says that it was a really amazing, life changing and humbling experience- just like everyone said it would be! While she can't exactly pinpoint how her life is different, she says she's definitely changed her outlook on life. She recognises, after seeing the extreme poverty in PNG, just how abundantly God has blessed her and her family.

A highlight for Abby was a youth rally in Goroka where she danced out the front with young girls, in the mud. She also mentioned how much fun she had with the rest of the band as they tried to dance traditional Papua New Guinean style! Hanging out with the band and the fellowship that came with it was a really great experience for Abby.

While in PNG, and confronted with poverty, Abby couldn't help but think about how much she has that she takes for granted. She will be sitting her HSC exams (year 12 exams) later this year understanding how much of a privilege and blessing that it is.
