SYB goes to PNG - preview

11th July 2009 by Jarrod Newton

The Sydney Youth Band is going to Papua New Guinea!

From 10-20 July, twenty-nine Sydney Youth Band members will embark on the band's first international trip since their formation in 2001.

The Sydney Youth Band will be playing at various venues such as parks, villages, schools, at a youth rally and at church services in Port Moresby. They will lead music workshops, join with the Koki Corps Band in Port Moresby and participate in Salvation Army ministries in Kainantu, where The Salvation Army Leadership Training centre is based. The Sydney Youth Band will also embark on an excursion to the Kokoda Track.

Abby Wells, who has played cornet with the Sydney Youth Band for more than three years, is excited to experience God in a different cultural setting. She has never visited a third-world country before and is really looking forward to the adventure.

And apart from hoping that the mission trip will strengthen her character and her faith in God, she has little to no expectations about the trip.

Abby does however recognise that people have often said that mission trips are life-changing. Although she is yet to discover how her life will be altered, the prospect of it occurring has definitely added to her excitement.

Keep checking back to salvos.org.au/more for regular updates on the SYB's activities. Updates are dependant on the band being able to access the internet during their time in PNG.
